The Leader in Search-Powered Information Risk Management (IRM) Software
Recommind provides the most accurate and automated enterprise search, automatic classification and eDiscovery software available, giving organizations and their users the information they need when they need it.
About Our Name
Our company name, Recommind, represents the powerful combination of technology and human intuition. We utilize technology to instantly and accurately recommend the correct information or expertise that the user has in mind. Similarly, the Recommind logo signifies the extraction of the exact piece of information or expertise a user seeks from the vast universe of available data.
Where We Started
After years of research at MIT and the University of California, Berkeley in the fields of machine learning, text mining and multimedia information retrieval, Dr. Jan Puzicha recognized that legacy technologies simply would not be able to handle the avalanche of information organizations must process in an accurate and easy-to-use manner.
The missing component of information retrieval is context. How do I know what this piece of information is about? What makes that information valuable? Is this information pertinent to my needs? These are the questions that earlier information management tools could not deal adequately with, observed Puzicha.
Benefiting from intense scrutiny in a world-class research environment, Dr. Puzicha developed and later patented Recommind's completely unique CORE (Context Optimized Relevance Engine) technology that directly addresses these questions. Dr. Puzicha teamed with co-founder Derek Schueren and entrepreneur Bob Tennant to form Recommind in 2000. This dynamic team brought the powerful CORE technology to market to address some of the most vexing search, classification, eDiscovery and compliance challenges facing today's large enterprises.

INFORMATION RISK MANAGEMENT (IRM)
Harness and Leverage the Power of Enterprise Information -
Search-powered Information Risk Management (IRM) is a powerful concept that describes how forward-looking enterprises are using search-powered technologies to automatically harness, manage and leverage the power of enterprise information.
Recommind understands that information represents a paradox for today's enterprises: it represents both the lifeblood of the business and a critical challenge in today's litigious, regulated environment. When managed correctly it can be used to create tremendous value. However, when enterprise information is left unmanaged, the results can severely damage an organization through litigation, regulatory sanctions, lost goodwill or inability to compete with better-organized rivals. Driven by this philosophy and working hand-in-hand with customers, Recommind has built the industry's most powerful search-powered platform with supporting applications that redefine how enterprises can proactively manage their information paradigm.
Recommind is the only software provider offering an automated, end-to-end solution to meet enterprises' IRM needs. These products are all built on our patented CORE search platform, which enables enterprises to manage information risk, thereby addressing the organization's most critical eDiscovery, compliance, records management, automatic categorization and enterprise search needs.
eDISCOVERY & COMPLIANCE
eDiscovery and Compliance the Way they Should Be -
One half of the search-powered IRM model addresses eDiscovery and Compliance, which enables an enterprise to proactively manage the litigation, regulatory compliance and internal investigatory risks associated with enterprise information.
Rising Risks and Costs from Litigation and Regulatory Oversight
In today's business environment the risks and costs due to litigation and regulatory requirements are sky-rocketing, and are not expected to subside any time soon. The average cost to defend a corporate lawsuit now exceeds $1.5 million per case. According to the 2009 edition of the Law360 Litigation Almanac, litigation in US federal courts rose 9% in 2008 - and this upward trend is expected to continue into 2009 and beyond.
Precision, accuracy and speed in the search, assessment, collection, processing, culling and analysis of an enterprise's electronically stored information (ESI) is critical due to the amount of ESI that is created and stored in a typical enterprise. Enterprises must comply with increasingly aggressive federal and state procedural requirements in a consistent, defensible manner that minimizes the risk of sanctions for failing to preserve relevant ESI and the resulting risks to an enterprise's reputation and goodwill. Taking an overly broad approach to eDiscovery and compliance (e.g. saving all enterprise data, forensically imaging every custodian's hard drive in eDiscovery, etc.) simply exacerbates the problem, resulting in far higher risk and out-of-control costs. Finally, an enterprise that relies solely on manual review or out-dated search technologies will also be hard-pressed to meet tight response deadlines while also facing the potential for inadvertent disclosure of privileged material or missing key documents in a proceeding.
Bigger Challenges Require Better Tools
In order to meet these challenges, legal professionals (both in-house and outside counsel) need solutions that improve significantly upon the highly manual, keyword-centric first and second-generation tools and approaches of years past. Moreover, legal professionals require tools that facilitate quicker and more accurate early case assessment (ECA) to provide enterprises and their outside counsel with a competitive advantage in terms of evaluating the merits of a case from the very outset, making settlement determinations, and being prepared for the FRCP Rule 26(f) meet and confer process.
Having been a leader in the legal industry for nearly a decade, Recommind understands that enterprises and the legal professionals who serve them eschew point solutions focused solely on linear review, processing or rudimentary culling in favor of eDiscovery solutions which provide myriad time and money-saving benefits - all in a fully integrated, end-to-end platform.
These software products include the industry's most accurate and cost effective eDiscovery solution from identification through assessment, collection, processing, culling, review and production with fully automated deep analytics throughout, comprised of our Axcelerate eDiscovery and Insite Legal Hold products.
Utilizing Insite Legal Hold, the industry's most powerful collection tool with built-in processing, in-place assessment, culling and automated analytics, enterprises can now quickly and accurately address multiple steps in the eDiscovery lifecycle including identification, preservation, assessment, collection, processing and culling. Enterprises can now remotely and selectively collect ESI that is responsive to a particular matter -- whether an eDiscovery request, internal investigation or regulatory request -- without the costs, burdens and disruption associated with forensic collections or additional risk associated with custodian self-collection.

Employing Axcelerate eDiscovery - which comes integrated with Insite Legal Hold for enterprise customers - enterprises and law firms now have a powerful tool to conduct automated, deep analysis at a pace and with an accuracy never before experienced while actually improving on human-only review accuracy rates. As opposed to legacy review tools that require legal professionals to manually place documents found by basic keyword searches into reviewer-created categories, Axcelerate eDiscovery automatically categorizes and prioritizes documents based not just on keyword frequency but on conceptual meaning and priority as well. The result is a far deeper level of ESI understanding from the outset of the review process and a far more efficient, accurate and cost effective review.

INFORMATION & ACCESS MANAGEMENT
Sophisticated Search Made Simple -
One half of the Search-powered IRM model addresses Information Access & Management, which enables enterprise knowledge workers to quickly and easily access the relevant documents, work product, people, projects, expertise, relationships and other information they need to do their jobs more effectively, which in turn makes the enterprise more efficient and competitive.
The challenge, however, is that enterprise information continues to grow in large volumes, types and formats. By many accounts, enterprise information growth is conservatively averaging 50-100% year over year. Alarmingly, there are estimates that unstructured enterprise information grows at a rate of 100-200% year over year. Click image to enlarge
Seamlessly Integrating Enterprise Information
Recommind's information access and management products are powered by our CORE search platform and are able to integrate an enterprise's myriad and diverse data sources including document management systems, portals (e.g. Microsoft SharePoint), email archives, content management systems, and CRM systems.
Working closely with enterprises to address these common needs, Recommind designed software that allows enterprises and their knowledge workers to be more productive, efficient and precise in conducting their daily tasks. These software products include the award-winning MindServer Search and Decisiv Email applications, both of which are powered by Recommind's patented CORE search technology.
AUTOMATED CLASSIFICATION
Handling Explosive Data Growth -
Enterprises of all sizes and in all verticals are drowning in data. By many accounts, enterprise information growth is averaging 50-100% year over year, with unstructured enterprise information alone growing at a rate of 100-200% per year. Furthermore, email archives only make the problem worse by providing yet another repository into which massive amounts of data are dumped with little or no organization or categorization of any sort. The result: most enterprises find themselves sitting on a rapidly growing mountain of data, not knowing what information should be kept - for business, records management, compliance or eDiscovery purposes - and what information can be retired.
By using sophisticated software that automates the classification of information into various categories, however, enterprises can alleviate this problem quickly and accurately. And the savings from such an effort can be tremendous, in lower storage costs, data center costs, and eDiscovery costs to name just a few.
Automated, Accurate Classification Based on Content
Recommind brings the power of automated classification to enterprises with large, dynamic information collections where information processing is costly and time consuming. The CORE (Context Optimized Relevancy Engine) platform's classification technology is powerful and automated, yet configurable to provide the most control with the least amount of manual effort.
With these powerful classification tools, organizations can reduce the time and effort needed to organize, route and distribute information. The CORE platform enables automated or semi-automated operation, providing content experts with both control and efficiency.
Automated Metadata Creation
Use classification to make your information easier to find. The CORE platform's classification capabilities automate the creation and enhancement of metadata, associating annotations with enterprise documents on the fly and improving the organization of enterprise information.
Taxonomy Management
GUI-based administration tools provide a fast, easy way to build or import and existing taxonomy, update and add new categories and monitor the accuracy confidence level of category assignments.
Automated Classification
The CORE platform's classification technology receives information feeds or actively crawls and indexes text from any source: document management systems, intranets, websites, CRM applications, databases and file systems. Based on the content, documents are associated with one or more taxonomies and categories such as topics, geographic locations, document types, industries and others.
CORE can automatically develop a taxonomy based on file structures or information contained in a document collection, or can classify documents into an existing propriety structure or a standard taxonomy such as MeSH or IPTC.
As documents change and new documents are added, CORE incrementally classifies and stores or distributes them according to rules defined by the administrator.
